ICMR recommends people to drink these 5 drinks and avoid sugarcane juice during hot summers.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) along with the National Institution of Nutrition recently released a new set of revised guidelines for people. They released a long list of dietary tips that will help people stay healthy, keep diseases at bay, survive the summer heat and increase longevity. Among their list of guidelines, they also listed the best and healthiest drinks that are a must have during summer heatwaves. According to ICMR, you should stop drinking sugarcane juice because it is not as healthy as you think. Sugarcane juice contains too much sugar and this can be very unhealthy especially for diabetes patients. It contains about 13 15 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters. ICMR recommends to limit its intake. However, they did provide a list of 5 other drinks that will help people stay hydrated and healthy in summers.

5 Drinks Recommended By ICMR

Coconuts Water

This is the ideal drink in summer heat. It is all natural without any artificial sugar. It is filled with nutrients like sodium, magnesium, potassium and electrolytes. It will help you stay hydrated, prevent low blood sugar and help you stay rejuvenated. Moreover, there is very less risk of contamination in coconut water. It is the safest drink for your gut.

Buttermilk Or Chaach

Another traditional Indian drink which is good for cooling your body, good for digestion and gut health and is rich in vitamins and minerals, including calcium, potassium and probiotics.

Lemon Water

Lemon water or nimbu pani is an ideal summer drink which will immediately rejuvenate you and cool your body. It is rich in vitamin C and other minerals. It also helps maintain electrolyte levels in the body thereby preventing lightheadedness or low blood pressure in summers.

Water is the first and foremost necessity for hydration at any time, be it summer or winter. There is no replacement to water. Even if you are sipping or other types of fresh drinks, you must not skip drinking water. Water also helps prevent many illnesses and increases your longevity.

One of the best and healthiest options for hydration is to get a glass of juice made out of whole fruits. Make sure to not remove the fibre portion from the juice. This is not only very hydrating but also is filled with vitamins, fibre, antioxidants and minerals. Go for fruits like watermelons, oranges, cucmbers, mangoes, etc.
