Updated April 2025! Though they have more menu items, the menu at Carl’s Jr. has actually simplified a bit over the years, making it easier to custom order without dairy. We’ve detailed the options based on the most recent data available, and have even added a separate new vegan menu guide and additional allergen tips. We’ve also merged Green Burrito into this listing, since all Green Burrito locations are attached to Carl’s Jr.

Be aware of special order requirements in parentheses () next to the menu items, and see the Heads Up notes to help fill in the blanks. Please note that this guide is for the U.S. locations, but also includes notes that cover Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and might be helpful for some other countries. But options and ingredients can vary by country.

Butter Note: It is not corporate policy at Carl’s Jr to use butter on their buns or grill. They typically use oil, and at last check, the margarine used on some items is made without milk (see Bun Note below). But franchise owners and managers can take liberties, so be sure to verify “not butter” before ordering.

Bun Note: According to our most recent contact with Carl’s Jr. corporate, “our buns are sourced from different companies depending on the region, but currently they do not contain dairy. We do not use any butter, instead we use margarine which doesn’t contain any dairy.”

Other Allergen & Dietary Notes: For gluten-free guests, Carl’s Jr offers a great lettuce wrap option instead of a bun. All of the non-egg items listed below can be ordered without egg, if ordered without any mayo-based sauces. All of the items listed below are also made without peanuts and tree nuts. Allergy friendly, makes a friendly community

I haven’t eaten fast food for so long due to allergies. It would be great to feel safe eating out again. Hopefully franchise owners and management do not ruin the safety of their food by cross contamination for gluten, egg and dairy (butter and cheese) for they are in the top 9 allergies that affect more and more people every day. I had to include butter and cheese in ( ) because it is insane how many people have no clue that they are dairy products. Many people have no clue of cross contamination either, people will cook on the same grill or use same workspace without cleaning to protect those with allergies. Also people will touch buns (gluten), cheese (dairy) and without changing gloves make a gluten or dairy free item. It is sad that people only become more aware when others get on their case or they or a loved one experience the suffering of food allergies.

I’ve ordered the Beyond famous star maybe 40 times from carls Jr. Id say cheese or mayo makes it on about a 10th of the time. I’ve had a meat patty instead of beyond a few times as well. But the worst was when I was given extra mayo instead of the no mayo that I had as for. It was literally on the bottom and top bun and on the burger itself. It was a monstrosity of mayo. After that I didn’t go back for at least a year. It’s fast food so you can’t expect perfection. But it’s nice in a pinch to have a place to eat that usually can give you a vegan burger so you don’t have to live off fries or a side salad with no dressing. If you’ve been vegan for a while you know what I mean.

Unwilling to make without cheese

The Carl’s Jr. in Wichita Falls, TX was unable/unwilling to make any breakfast burrito without cheese. Saying they “we’re all already mixed together”.
