The secret behind Tyson Fury’s extraordinary weight loss: The special diet and training program – Telegraph

Tyson Fury has made a remarkable change in his physique ahead of the super duel against Deontay Wilder that takes place next weekend.

The British boxer has managed to lose around 60kg in the last 12 months as part of his preparations ahead of the fight against the American, all thanks to a carefully calibrated program designed by his strength and conditioning coach, Kristian Blacklock .

In the period of his absence from the sport of boxing, the weight of the 30-year-old increased to a great extent, but after returning to the ring, he began to return to the best physical shape, especially in the last months, when you consider that he will face the champion of WBC’s.

According to Blacklock, who advised Tyson even before the duel against Wladimir Klitschko three years ago, this achievement was a miracle.

“If you said a year ago that he would be fighting for the world title in 12 months, where he was at and at his weight, it wouldn’t be realistic. However, after we did the first camp and they removed the weight, then the possibilities are real”, Blacklock declared for Daily Telegraph.

Fury’s early diet was ‘Keto’ – very low carb meaning the body burns fat for energy – coupled with low intensity exercise. Since then, according to Blacklock, the focus has been for the boxer to have a quality sports diet, with sources of organic protein and carbohydrates, such as eggs, fish, chicken and other types of meat rich in protein and low in fat.

“Tyson doesn’t like vegetarian food, but we managed to find some things he needed. It was a peanut butter chicken recipe that we had at camp and it was his favorite, made by his chef, Tim Alcock. If you enjoy the food that is offered to you, then the diet is much easier,” added Blacklock.

Although Fury’s weight loss has been dramatic, it has not been instantaneous. “It was an evolution, not a revolution,” explains his strength and conditioning coach, adding that in cases of fast diets, in addition to fats, muscle mass and fluids are lost.

“The key to this success is that the weight loss has been gradual. To be honest, during the past year, he has not had a single day off. He practiced constantly. We’ve had three training camps, but it’s been like a few weeks of lower intensity after the matches,” said Blacklock.

Although there is a huge risk when there is no rest, he said that was not the case with Fury. “In an ideal world we planned to achieve this in 18 months. But since the process was smooth, there was nothing to break. He has been very precise with his diet and lifestyle. In the last 12 months he has hardly had a glass (of alcohol), he has been very, very controlled. If he was still over 130 kilos, we wouldn’t be asking him to fight Deontay Wilder. Since we are far ahead with the plan, then there is no reason not to do the duel”.

“We are not really worried about his weight for this duel. In the last two matches we have had small targets on where he should be. For this match, we are monitoring his weight and body fat, but we are trying to make him physically ready for this duel. Troops don’t win fights.”

“Tyson will never look like Anthony Joshua. However, there is no need for how it will perform. Tyson is a very strong person physically, he is also in very good cardiovascular condition. You can’t judge a book by its cover in terms of physicality,” Blacklock said.

Fury has also followed a very rigorous weight lifting program. With his size, the trainers have trained him with very heavy weights up to 250 kilograms.

“However, at the same time, we have also focused on speed and momentum. Everyone knows Wilder has the speed, so you have to have reflexes. Tyson is fast and if you look at the two fights before this one, there was a huge progression from Seferi to Pianeta. Not only for his appearance, but also for his speed and movements.”

“We’ve improved those qualities a lot more for this fight, so it can be a bit faster, lighter and more mobile. I am very confident that we will see the best Tyson Fury we have ever seen physically,” said Blacklock.
